I got this over at Alex's place. This is from something called 'The Big Read', and it is designed to encourage community reading initiatives. The NEA came up with a list of their top 100 books and they estimate that the average adult has only read 6 of these books. I will highlight the ones I've read. Cut and paste into your blog and let us know which you've read.
I am adding this, which I found over at Pastor Peters' place. More fun!
1) Look at the list and bold those we have read.
2) Italicize those we intend to read.
3) Underline the books we LOVE (I’ve used an asterisk)
4) Reprint this list in our own blogs

Holy cats--you haven't read "To Kill a Mockingbird?" Whatever you're doing, stop it and start reading.
:-) Sorry--I'm just CRAZY about that book. Am currently reading it to Beloved at the end of the day.
Our town does this; we started a few years ago. It's pretty cool. I've read 33 of the books on this list (apparently, that's a lot), but I note that Shakespeare and Narnia are both listed as complete works, but then some individuals are mentioned. Hmm!
Cecilia I highly recommend The three Thomas Hardy novels, especially Tess of the D'Ubrevilles. I am also fond Of The Wind in the Willows, And The Color Purple. I had to read that one Purple is my favorite color :)
there's a lot I haven't read either, and I was an English major! (hardly any Harry Potter, for example)...
Well, I read "Jude the Obscure" (among others), but don't remember anything! I was an English major, like Diane, and read too many things that I should have been much older so I would understand more.
